Analysis of Structural Bias in Differential Evolution Configurations

Differential Evolution is a popular optimisation method with small number of parameters. However, different hyper-parameters and variants such as mutation operators the F $$C_r$$ parameter may introduce structural bias. Structural bias form where artefacts in algorithm lead to preference particular regions search space regardless objective function. Many configurations suffer from bias, but it very hard automatically detect even harder what kind involved component might be cause it. A comprehensive study occurrence type has not yet been carried out till now. In this chapter, we systematically evaluate 10980 on open-source BIAS toolbox. Using toolbox identify which is. addition, analyse results make clear recommendations components parameters can used ensure unbiased behaviour within reasonable computational budget.
